Description

Surrounded by the blue purple Drakenstein Mountains, this Paarl guest house is an ideal country setting to relax and unwind with spectacular vistas of majestic mountains. Roggeland Country House is run by the Minkley family in an atmosphere of warm, friendly and refined hospitality. Situated in the Dal Josaphat Valley, just North East of the town of Paarl. It is an hour's drive from Cape Town and 45 minutes from the international airport.

The guest house is ideally situated for winelovers who wish to explore the wine routes of Paarl, Wellington, Tulbagh, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. In this part of the Cape you'll discover cheese factories, port or brandy cellars of distinction, the food, the scenic splendor and the richness of history, art and country hospitality that is the Boland experience.

A choice of superior or standard rooms give you the option of a large room with bath and freestanding shower or a smaller room with bath and shower combination. Each of the bedrooms has a unique character and charm, fully appointed with a large double bed, or optional twin beds and en-suite bathrooms. All have 'riempie' reed or yellowood ceilings and deep casement windows with wooden shutters, all features of traditional Cape architecture.

Handmade linen, down duvets, ceiling fans, fresh flowers and handmade soaps all conspire to bring about a pleasant and restful stay. Rise as early or as late as you please to your choice of fresh filter coffee or tea brought to your room.

No TV or mini bar facilities are available in the rooms.

Voted amongst the top 100 restaurants in 2004 by Wine Magazine, one of the highlights of your stay at Roggeland will be the food. A pre-dinner selection of wines to taste is served under the trees and is an opportunity to mingle with other guests. Take time to informally chat about Roggeland and the exquisite surroundings with family members and staff.

The dining room, originally the old kitchen of the manor house, still has the original oven and fireplace which form part of the character and charm of the homestead. Dinner is a four course, candle lit affair, with carefully selected wines with each course and changes each evening for the duration of your stay.
